Rural Roots: A Modern Homesteading Weekend

Join us in your boots – to celebrate our roots – a second annual special event dedicated to experiencing the farm in a new old way. Rural Roots is our time capsule weekend with vendors, demonstrations, and activities curated to highlight our rural community and delights of the season:

Boots, jeans and a hat are recommended to learn how to live off the land! This event is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

Explore the Market Barn

The Market Barn shelves are overflowing with fresh fruit from our orchards and seasonal offerings like mums, pumpkins, apple cider, caramel apples, apple fritters, maple syrup and more!

Real Fruit Ice Cream

Quarry Cones Real Fruit Ice Cream is a fresh treat made with our own orchard-grown fruit that’s frozen and deliciously swirled with vanilla ice cream. Stop by the Scoop Shop inside the Market Barn to enjoy this sweet treat!   

Live Music

We’ve got a great lineup of some local musicians who will add a beautiful acoustical backdrop to this special event. Grab a seat at the picnic tables and enjoy the show! Schedule below:

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides

Enjoy the charm – and the unique experience – of a horse drawn wagon ride. Family Tradition Farm’s Belgian Geldings (Draft Horses) will guide you on a scenic ride to soak in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings ($$ pp).

Interactive Homestead Activity Station

Fun for all ages, Bring the Farm to You is bringing their interactive homesteading program to our orchards! Guests will be able to visit different stations to grind and sift grain, roll dough, comb wool, use washboards, play with rolling hoops, stilts, wooden toys, wagons, and more! We’re bringing history to life! Come check it out!

Burning River Forge

LIVE DEMOS

JD from Burning River Forge makes all kinds of tools, and specialty items for a wide variety of uses. Made by hand from quality materials, these unique items will last a lifetime. From rugged hunting knives to kitchen cutlery, Burning River Forge makes it all.

Apple Picking

Available daily from 10am – 4pm; look for the white tent on the back lawn with the big PICK YOUR OWN banner; get some direction from our staff (including a highlighted map), purchase your picking bag, snag a wagon and you’re ready to go!

Haystack Tower

Let the kids burn off some energy at our Haystack Tower! Perfect for climbing, exploring, and creating memories. A classic autumn activity that’s endless fun for little ones at the orchard!

Pumpkin Palace

Missed our Faul Haul? We got you covered – visit the pumpkin palace in the back lawn of the Market Barn to select from a gorgeous assortment of homegrown pumpkins. Stacking, carving, warty, etc. Use the weighing scales then have the total weight handy at the register for check out.

Berlin Heights Historical Society

Step back in time with the Berlin Heights Historical Society and dig deep into the “ROOTS” of Quarry Hill Orchards. Visit their table to explore the heritage & rich history of our orchards and local quarries. Learn fascinating stories about the land and how our third-generation farm has grown since 1929.

Chuckwagon Chili

For a hearty appetite, don’t miss Chuckwagon Chili (a longtime favorite – welcome back Lee!). Large chili pots atop friendly fires keep their fan favorite Potato Soup (vegetarian) and Traditional Chili hot and delicious. Sandwiches are served on flat bread rounds and topped with a choice of meat. Cornbread, trailside beans, and fresh sourdough loaves give you chance to taste Rural Roots at it’s finest.

Pork Mac n’ Moore

Local food truck specializing in smoked pulled pork, chicken paprikash & dumplings, and their coveted mac n’ cheese.

Bakers Acres Blooms

Stop by the Bakers Acres Blooms booth to pick up a gorgeous handpicked, fresh cut bouquet for your table!

Get to know one of our favorite products in the Market Barn, and the flavors and variety behind BJ Garlic. Shop from hardneck garlic bulbs, a variety of gourmet balsamic vinegars and olive oils, pickled garlic, stuffed olives and pickles, to freshly made spices

Parking Instructions

Please park in the grass (gold highlight) on either side of Humm Road and enjoy a short walk through the grassy lawns to the Market Barn (number 3) where the event will take place (green highlight). The parking immediately NEXT to the Market Barn will be very congested and at capacity.
