Annual Newsletter: August 1985

Dear Friends;

Our Uncle Len has often said that what cannot be cured must be endured. And so it is with this year’s peach crop. For the second year in a row Mother Nature’s wrath in January spelled doom for any peach harvest. While August is the peach month, our total production has been about forty bushels. Yet, despite that fact, we have been able to get exceptionally good peaches from a Michigan grower. We hope that has been able to satisfy the peach hungry.

We will have peaches available until the second week in September. We are currently picking prune plums and have just completed the Bartlett pear harvest. Both will be available well into September.

We praise the powers that be for this year’s apple crop. Bill says that this is the best crop since he finished teaching school seven years ago. Quality appears to be quite good size is large, color is sharp and sugar content is high. Our biggest concern is to arouse your appetite for apples early this year. Due to the early spring this year the apple harvest w ill be ten days to two weeks earlier this fall. The following time table may help those of you who enjoy being able to “pick your own”:

As with all growing families we are in a constant state of flux. Ben squirms at the thought of the approach of the beginning of the first grade. Adrianne just celebrated her third birthday and no longer sleeps peacefully in the barn . jackie has once again accepted the challenge of teaching and will begin this school year at South Amherst High School.
